Bolangir: At least two Maoists were gunned down in a police encounter near Dudukamal under Belpada block in this district Sunday .
A team of security personnel went into action after it received intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists. A combing operation led to the killing of two ultras of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist)
Police said the identity of one liquidated Maoist was yet to be ascertained, while the other was Sanjib, a top Maoist carrying a cash reward. One AK-47 and one Insas rifle have been recovered from the spot.
Some of the rebels managed escape. The bodies were brought to Belpada police station.
Meanwhile, according to a report Sunday , there was an encounter between PLFI and the CRPF aided by local police in Sinharjore forests in Jharkhand bordering Odisha. One area commander of Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) was killed and two others were arrested there.
The report said two double-barrel guns, a country-made pistol, an AK-47 rifle, a sten gun, 17 live cartridges, one wireless set and two mobile phones were seized.
