Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Around eight delegates from other countries who visited Utkal University of Culture Thursday got a first-hand experience of Oriya folk arts and traditions through cultural programmes and a series of discussions organised on the campus.
An International Symposium on Vibrant Folk Traditions was organised by the postgraduate department of Cultural Studies of the university. Several alumni members of the college and other students took part in the event.
“Orissa has a rich cultural heritage. Many folk dance forms are unique to the state. I hope this seminar proves to be a good platform to hold discussions on varied cultures. Many universities in the state have limited jurisdiction, but our university is the only varsity to have the entire state under its jurisdiction as it deals with culture, which basically is all about the entire state of Orissa,” said vice-chancellor Devendra Nath Jena.
“Orissa is a unique state. It symbolises the co-existence of various religions and cultures. The rich heritage of the state needs no introduction in the country. However, many parts of the world are still unaware of our rich heritage. We need to propagate the beauty of Orissa globally. I hope the delegates who came here will appreciate our culture and will take good memories back home,” said Registrar Suman Das.
