Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: The India Meteorological Department Thursday predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers over the coastal belt of the state for the next 24 hours.
The prediction comes even as the capital witnessed sudden rain of 15.4 mm (the highest in the state), accompanied by wind speeds of up to 60 kmph and a drop in temperature Thursday evening.
However, Met director Sahu said such changes in weather conditions are common during this time of the year.
“A trough line has formed over the state that might trigger rain with thundershowers over a few pockets of the coastal belt in the next 24 hours. However, we have not issued any warning for the change as it is usual and might not affect the day-to-day life of people,” said Sahu.
The weather department recorded 14.8 mm rainfall at Keonjhar and meagre rainfall at Talcher, Sambalpur and Angul in the past 24 hours.
Weather officials have predicted a slight decrease in the night temperature from February 15.
“There will again be a dip in night temperature from February 15, but the day temperature will remain constant and might also increase,” said the Bhubaneswar Met office director.
The minimum and maximum temperature may remain around 18 and 32 degree Celsius in the city Friday.
