Bhubaneswar: In a failed attempt to escape the police net at Indira Gandhi Market, a thief met with an accident here Thursday.
The thief identified as Santosh Bauri of Berhampur district had been staying in the capital. Thursday, Bauri went to a computer shop at the IG market and tried to sell a stolen laptop by posing as its owner. However, suspecting his behavior, the shopkeeper secretly informed Nayapalli police who reached there immediately.
Seeing police Bauri tried to flee the spot when a speeding scooter hit him. He was later rushed to Capital hospital here by the police and was undergoing treatment as he broke his leg. According to hospital sources, Sunday he was referred to the SCB medical college and Hospital for further treatment. Notably, a complaint about theft of the laptop had been filed with the police a few days ago.
