Bhubaneswar:Police Monday arrested two youths in connection with the murder of a liquor trader over a petty issue Sunday. The accused duo have been identified as Bhajamana Nayak alias Gedu of Kumutibagicha in Puri and his aide Kalu Charan Jali alias Kalia of Satasankha in Puri.
The deceased was P Kameswar Reddy (38) of Phalikia Bazaar slum under Capital police limits here. Police said they seized the bamboo plank used in the crime.
Kameswar owned a liquor shop at Phalikia market. He went to buy liquor from a government liquor counter near the railway station. The two youths also had also arrived there to buy liquor. The two had an argument with Kameswar, and Kameswar allegedly slapped one of the youths. In retaliation, one of the youths attacked Kameswar with the bamboo plank and hit him on his head.
Locals rushed the victim to Capital Hospital where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’. The death was caused by excess bleeding.
The two accused were absconding after the incident. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the two and produced them in court Monday, it was learnt.
