Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Art and Artistes, an entertainment firm, is going to organise a musical concert titled Idea Jalsa – Music For Soul, for the first time in the city of temples with a promise to bring to audiences several genres of Indian music, this Sunday at Utkal Mandap.
Acknowledged as India’s largest music concert tour, the programme will cover 12 cities across the country this year.
Addressing a press conference, Durga Jasraj, noted anchor and daughter of legendary vocalist Pandit Jasraj, said the event would be a tribute to Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
“This is for the first time that we are conducting a Jalsa event in the city, and I hope people will love it. This event is meant as a tribute to the father of Odissi dance: Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra,” Durga Jasraj said.
Idea Jalsa began in 2006 as a concert tour across 39 cities featuring over 600 artistes in more than 50 genres of Indian music. In its ninth year, it has once again brought together legends and rising stars of Indian music to present a rich and diverse showcase of culture through live performances.
The concert will feature a flute ‘jugalbandi’ by Rakesh Chaurasia, nephew of noted flautist Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Shashank Subramanyam. Ustad Rashid Khan, one of the foremost names in Hindustani classical, will deliver a solo performance at the concert.
Reminiscing on her close relationship with Guru Kelucharan, Jasraj said, “My mother performed a ballet of Geeta Gobind which was choreographed by him. During that time he stayed with us for six months. My brother and I grew very close to him and developed a strong bond which we still cherish. He was a great man and has left a lasting influence on our lives.”
“Our event is not just a platform for established artistes; we also encourage emerging talent,” Jasraj said. Since its inception, it has executed more than 300 live concerts across the world, she added.
Two of her projects, Idea Jalsa and Tiranga, have found a place in the Limca Book of Records. “It is a free programme and there will be no entry fees. Anyone who loves Indian classical music can take free entry passes from My Idea Cellular,” Jasraj informed.
