Balugaon: Normal life came to a standstill across Banapur area in Khordha district Tuesday following a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh, demanding sub-division status for the block.
The bandh called by Banapur-Balugaon-Chilika Subdivision Kriyanushtan Committee received overwhelming support from various groups in the Banapur block.
Shops, business establishments, schools, colleges and other educational institutions remained shut Tuesday.
Commuters had a tough time in Banapur town as the public and private transport systems remained off roads.
The committee members resorted to road blockade and held protest meetings at several places.
The committee, which demands the upgrade of Banapur as a sub-division, plans to hold a rally from Paltan Ground through the town to submit a memorandum to Banapur tehsildar later in the day.
