Bhubaneswar: In a bid to inculcate scientific temper among school students, the state government has decided to introduce robotics in the course curriculum of select schools across the state.
“The aim is to keep our students technologically updated. We had received a proposal regarding the same from a Bangalore-based company and have decided to go ahead with it. This will help children develop their skills on robotics and artificial intelligence from an early age,” School and Mass Education secretary PK Mohapatra told reporters here Tuesday.
In the first phase, the course will be introduced in 10 model schools of the state, where students will be imparted robotic education along with training on drone technology, he said.
The agency has made a presentation before the secretary today. Sources said NITI Aayog is also pushing for setting up robotics labs in schools and in states like Kerala some have already introduced robotics classes in primary school. With a vision to cultivate one million children in India as Neoteric Innovators, the NITI Aayog is implementing Atal Innovation Mission by establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across India.
The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc, they said.
Under the Mission, the Centre will provide grant-in-aid that includes a one-time establishment cost of Rs 10 lakh and operational expenses of Rs 10 lakh for a maximum period of 5 years to each ATL, sources said.
