Derabish: Mystery shrouded the death of a 20-year-old girl at Brahmapur village near Derabiash police limits in Kendrapara district Wednesday. The girl was Meenakshi Mallick, younger daughter of Khirod Mallick of Choti village near Nikirai in the same district.
Police sent the body for autopsy to the district hospital. A scientific team and sniffer dogs were pressed into service for the probe.
Srikant Mallick had been married to the deceased’s elder sister Sasmita three years ago. He later developed an illicit affair with his sister-in-law Meenakshi. Two months ago, he took her to his home and kept her there as his ‘wife’.
Meenakashi was found dead Tuesday. The cause of the death was yet to be established. Locals believe she was beaten up by Srikant and then poisoned. Based on a complaint by the girl’s father, police registered a case and launched a probe.
