Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly beaten to death at Bankual village near Sahid Nagar here Thursday. The deceased was Deepika. Her parents say she was killed by her husband and in-laws over a demand for dowry. The husband has been detained for interrogation, police said.
As per first information, Deepika was married to Ajit Rana of Bankual village three years ago. Ajit was not happy with the amount he got as dowry. Later, he and the in-laws started demanding a piece of land as additional dowry. Deepika informed her parents about this, but they did not oblige and counseled her patience. The in-laws allegedly started torturing her mentally and physically. Thursday night, she died of alleged torture.
Pradeepta Rana, the deceased’s father, lodged a complaint at Sahid Nagar police station Friday. Police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Police investigation was on, police said.
