Bhubaneswar: Two persons were arrested by Kharvel Nagar police here Saturday on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and stealing a gold chain of a person at Master Canteen square June 15 morning.
The accused were identified as Jagannath Mohapatra alias Jaga, a resident of Balisahi village in Ganjam district, and the other as Pravat Rath hailing from Pokharipada village in Kendrapada. Both of them worked at an eatery, Jaga Balia, in Master Canteen.
Sources said the victim, Raju Rout, of Delang in Puri district, has been staying at Bayababa Matha Road under Sahid Nagar police station. Raju along with his sister, Sumitra Rout, were on their way home on a motorcycle when Mohapatra passed lewd comments at the latter while the duo was passing by Jaga Balia. An enraged Raju immediately stopped his bike there and confronted Mohapatra over his indecent behaviour. Mohapatra called Rath, who also misbehaved with Sumitra and assaulted Raju physically. Raju then called the cops and, Jaga and Rath fled the spot at the sight of an approaching PCR van. In an attempt to catch the miscreants, Raju chased Jaga but the latter bit his hand and snatched away his gold chain too.
Sumitra filed a written complaint in this regard with the Sahid Nagar police station and a case (170/18) under Sections 509,294,341,323,324,379 and 34 of the IPC was registered. The accused were produced before in court Saturday.
