Cuttack: A woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Mahisalanda village in Choudwar of this district Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Kalpana Swain, who was attacked when she had gone to attend the nature’s call.
According to reports, a herd of elephants had strayed into the locality Saturday evening.
On getting information, forest officials rushed to the spot and rescued her but she died on the way to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
Villagers said a herd of around 10-15 pachyderms were seen roaming the locality since the last couple of days.
They urged the authorities to take steps to prevent further elephant attack in the area.
