Potomac (US): Anirban Lahiri opened with a solid three-under 67 settling for a tied 10th place after the first round at the Quicken Loans National Golf Championships, here Thursday.
Lahiri, who logged his first top-10 finish of 2018 last week at the Travelers Championships, had a fine run of four birdies from second to fifth. But that apart, he parred all the other holes, barring the 18th in which he bogeyed.
Andrew Landry grabbed the lead with a seven-under 63 on the rain-softened course and later in the afternoon JJ Spaun shot the same, while playing in the group behind Tiger Woods who ended the day seven shots behind the leaders.
Steady beginning
Meanwhile at Kildeer in the US, golfer Aditi Ashok opened with a steady two-under 70 that positioned her nicely in tied 15th place at the end of the first round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championships, the third Major of the year for women. She had six birdies and two bogeys on her day’s card.
Three-time winner on the LPGA Tour and Sung Hyun Park surged to the top of the leaderboard with a bogey-free 66 to take the outright lead on day one.
Bhullar shines
Gaganjeet Bhullar sparkled Friday on the back nine of the Phoenix Gold Golf Course in Pattya with six birdies and put together a round of six-under 65, which lifted him from overnight tied 25 to tied third at nine-under 133 at the midway stage of the Queens Cup.
The eight-time winner on the Asian Tour, Bhullar, admitted that the course was playing good and easy and there were low scores to be had on the second day.
