Bolangir: A wedding, following a six-month love affair, disillusioned a man who is elusive after deserting his pregnant wife, has taken an ugly turn here.
After coming to know about his wife’s pregnancy, the man tried to abort it. When he failed to convince his wife, he deserted her to fend for herself.
The matter came to light Thursday when the woman lodged a complaint with the town police while hundreds of women led by social activist Lalit Kumar Nayak accompanied her in her support. The agitated women gheraoed the police station and demanded action against the missing youth.
After registering a case on basis of the victim’s complaint the police rounded up accused Subrat Ranjan Mishra and launched an investigation into the case.
According to the complaint, Subrat of Barapalipada was in a love relationship with a woman. On the pretext of marriage, he coaxed her into establishing physical relationship.
After the woman became pregnant, they married at a temple Jan 5 and have been residing together. As their family members were opposed to the marriage the couple got their wedding solemnised at Nrusinghanath temple as per Vedic rituals in the presence of friends and relatives February 23.
Days after the marriage, there was a rift after Subrat suggested termination of his wife’s pregnancy.
Later, he tried to destroy the foetus by giving his wife some pills. As the attempt did not work, he left her and remained elusive.
When the woman, who was four-months into pregnant, realized that she had been deceived, she took the help of the locals and informed the matter to Lalit Kumar Nayak, a social activist.
