Jajpur: Counterfeit currency notes of Rs 200 denomination are in circulation here, a report said.
A driver was handed over such a note by a person who had hired his vehicle. Unaware of this, the driver went to a store to buy medicines and learnt that the note was fake.
Fearing police action, the driver fled the spot. Preliminary probe revealed that the driver was from Sridharpur in Jajpur town.
The commissionerate police had seized a huge quantity of counterfeit notes from Berhampur recently. During a probe the police learnt that the network of the counterfeit currency racket was extending till jajpur.
Jajpur Town IIC Sudipt Kumar Sahu said there was no complaint about the circulation of counterfeit notes. “We will take suo motu cognizance of the driver’s case and start a probe,” he added.
