R. Udayagiri: A youth allegedly shot his uncle to death over a family feud at Gandeli village near here in Gajapati district.
The matter came to the fore after police recovered the body from a forest late Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Nuapaika Badaraita while the accused was his nephew Varun Nayak.
According to sources, Varun was in a love with Nuapaika’s daughter. But Nuapaika wasn’t interested in that relationship following which he arranged his daughter’s marriage with Varun’s younger brother.
An agitated Varun had an argument with with Nuapaika over the issue, sources said.
In an act of revenge, Varun hatched a plan to kill Nuapaika.
Varun hid himself in a forest with a gun while his uncle went out for some work Thursday. When Nuapaika reached the spot, Varun shot him to death. Later, he dumped the body in the forest and fled.
After Nuapaika didn’t reach home, his son Lochan Badaraita lodged a missing persons’ complaint with police. After 48 hours, the police recovered the body from the forest while the country-made gun was also seized from Nayak’s residence.
A murder case has been registered against the accused, who is absconding.
