Keonjhar: There is a popular tea shop near Gandhi Chhak in Keonjhar, called ‘Madhu Chaha Dokan.’ It is tea lovers’ favourite spot because Madhu’s tea is said to be different from that of others in the town. Mornings and evenings are peak hours at the shop.
Madhu’s demeanour is a factor that pulls a huge number of customers to his shop. Another plus point is customers are served tea in paper cups instead of plastic cups. “People are now conscious of health and good environment,” Madhu said.
Madhusudan Ram (56), a resident of Puruna Bazaar, earns enough to look after his family comprising his wife and a son. They live happily because of a small family.
He opens his shop twice – from 6.30 am to 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Apart from tea, he also prepares mixture and other snacks at home with help from his wife. These items also have a high demand among his customers. “To get these items, customers have to wait for some time or pay in advance,” Madhu said.
Madhu has managed to educate his son up to graduation. Now, he helps his father in his work. “I earn around Rs 15,000 a month from the tea shop,” Madhu said.
