Koraput: The indefinite sit-in protest by Koraput MLA Krushana Chandra Sagaria against the transfer of doctors and paramedical staff from the Koraput hospital to the Jeypore sub-divisional hospital that gained the DHH status recently entered second day Sunday.
Around 50 medical staff including 14 doctors were transferred to Jeypore sub-divisional hospital after it started functioning as the district headquarters hospital from June 25. The development came after the Koraput district headquarters hospital had been attached to the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital.
An official said that around 61 staff nurses, eight pharmacists, 45 doctors and around 80 other health officials will be shifted to Jeypore from Koraput.
Opposing the move to transfer the medical staff, Sagaria is staging a dharna at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital since Saturday.
“Healthcare facilities have collapsed at the SLN after the transfer of staff to the Jeypore facility. The government should have made alternate arrangements before transferring the staff,” said Sagaria.
“The dharna will continue until my demand is fulfilled,” he added. He said the Koraput DHH did not have adequate doctors and staff and now the transfer of the staff has further worsened the situation.
