Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: The Commissionerate Police have advised market committees to install security cameras in business houses and appoint community guards during an interactive meeting here.
Members of 10 marketing associations from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Jatni attended the meeting and suggested introduction of cooperative surveillance system with the help of cops. They came out with their problems they face while running business in crime-prone areas.
Commissioner RP Sharma suggested three models under which city’s lanes and bylanes can be brought under camera surveillance.
“Under the first model, we have set up security cameras at important junctions. Under the second model, the marketing committees can come together and install cameras with their own money and also operate it on their own. The data can be kept for 15 days on local level,” Sharma said.
Under the third model the marketing associations should buy their security system from camera-making companies.
Additional commissioner of police PS Ranpise suggested the association members that they build security blanket according to their budget. “There are two kinds of cameras, analogue and digital,” he said.
Among other suggestions, the commissioner said the marketing associations must check the antecedents of security guards and their fitness before hiring them.
Cuttack Road Market Association member Rabindra Kumar Swain said due to open drinking near the wine shops and mushrooming of snacks shops have become hang-out point for criminals. Taking serious note of it, the commissioner instructed all inspectors in-charge that they would be held responsible for all complaints of open drinking.
Another member said there is only one patrolling van in Jatni. Jatni assistant commissioner of police said the second PCR van has been patrolling the national highway.
Deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi said the police have identified crime-prone areas and the market committee of such areas should come up with their security system.
Association members of Bapuji nagar, Central Market Unit II, Ashok Nagar, Ruchika Market, Sahid Nagar Market, Rabi Talkies, Indradhanu Market, Priyadarshini Market, Unit III Market and Cuttack Road market participated.
