Berhampur: A notorious inter-state criminal was injured in a police encounter near Pustapur village in Ganjam district on the wee hours Wednesday.
The accused Dillip Das (24) alias Bidesi of Banapur area in Khordha district, has been admitted first to the Community Health Centre but was later shifted to MKCG Medical College after his condition got worsened.
Acting on specific information about the presence of a criminal at a cashew forest near Pustapur, police tried to nab him. However, in a bid to escape, Das opened fire at the cops.
When police retaliated, he sustained bullet injuries on his right leg.
The police have seized a gun, bullets, one mobile phone and one motorcycle from his possession.
More than 20 criminal cases including dacoity, snatching and extortion are pending against him at different police stations, police said.
