Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: The state government has decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) for providing training to in-service untrained Hindi teachers in the state from the forthcoming academic session.
The state has already prepared a draft MoU which has been sent to the IGNOU regional director here who has forwarded the same to the IGNOU headquarters in New Delhi. “I have received the draft and forwarded it to the IGNOU headquarters. I am not authorised to give my nod to the proposal,” said Abhilash Nayak, regional director IGNOU here.
In the proposed programme, the state government has targeted to train about 1,644 Hindi teachers who have been in-service and don’t have a bachelor’s degree in Hindi education.
According to the draft, IGNOU will provide distant mode training to the in-service teachers in Bachelor of Hindi Education (BH Ed) through its Bachelor of Education (B Ed) programme.
“The draft has been under active consideration of the legal cell of IGNOU, New Delhi. It is likely to be approved very soon and the training programme will begin by the coming academic year,” said Nayak.
The programme will be of two years where the teachers will have to attend 144 hours of academic couselling and also have to attend workshops for 24 days.
The teaching practice will be of 80 hours whereas the school-based study will be of 13 hours.
Also, each IGNOU study centre in the state will accommodate about 100 in-service teachers.
Moreover, those teachers who have secured 50 per cent marks in their graduation or post-graduation study will only be eligible for the programme.
