Khurda: A labourer was killed while another sustained critical injuries during blast at a stone quarry in Khurda district Tuesday.
According to reports, the mishap took place when blasting was being carried out illegally at Kalinga Mundia stone quarry here Tuesday morning.
A large piece of rock fell on Tulu Kalasha of Malipada village, who was working as a labourer at the quarry, following which he was crushed to death under it.
Another labourer, identified as Chandu Kalasha, was grievously injured in the incident. He was rescued by fellow workers and rushed to nearby hospital.
Police have started investigation into the incident.
It may be mentioned here that many stone quarries in the district blast the mountains for concrete chips. Many illegally use dynamites to blast the stone quarries.
