Bhograi: Upset over illegal hooch proliferation and ruckus by tipsy people, hundreds of women launched an organised attack on liquor sellers and vandalised three illegal country liquor and foreign liquor shops at Sankhari panchayat under Bhograi block of Balasore Saturday.
The women alleged that the number of illegal liquor traders has increased in various parts of Bhograi area due to the laidback attitude of police and the excise department.
The excise officials take monthly cuts from the bootleggers to facilitate their illegal business at Mateibada Chhak.
Though police and excise officials were apprised of the situation, no action was taken against the bootleggers.
Over 300 women along with some male persons of Kanyanagari broke three liquor shops and attacked three liquor sellers before handing them over to police.
A case was registered at Bhograi police station while the bootleggers Shantilata Jena, Munirani Patra and Bapi Hansda were produced in court.
