Boudh: Their journey from love at first sight to marriage has all ingredients for a super hit Hindi film.
After a decade-long struggle against the norms of the society and their family, the love affair of the inter-caste couple Bikram Mahalik and Kamalini Karna of Dimirikhol village under Baunsuni police limits in this district culminated in marriage at the registration office here.
Their marriage was solemnized by marriage registration officer Khadala Patra in presence of their supporters. Sudhar Nirmala Jena, councilor Sabita Hota and Bikram’s father were among others to witness marriage.
Visibly happy Bikram and Kamalini now take pleasure in narrating how they won over the hurdles on their way.
They met three years back and as days passed by, they realised they were in love and the bond grew stronger with each passing day.
Finally, they had expressed their desire to get married before their respective families. However, like hundreds others, Bikram and Kamalini also became victims of caste. As Kamalini was 15 then, they could not even solmenise their marriage in a temple or court.
Finding hard to stay away from each other, the two eloped to find a place where their love would get respect. However, the norms of the society and their families again stood in their way.
Acting on a kidnap complaint lodged by Kamalini’s family, police arrested Bikram and put him behind the bars.
During this period, Kamalini preferred to stay at a short stay home over her own house, waiting for Bikram to return from jail. She waited for Bikram in the short stay home until Bikram was granted bail and came out of the jail.
By now, she gained the official age for marriage and finally their long wait came to an end.
Kamalini and Bikram are of the opinion that life is precious. One, particularly couple in love, should not commit suicide if they face objection. They need to wait with patience to prove their love, they observed.
