Jeypore: A young couple was beaten mercilessly after relatives of the girl caught the two in a compromising position inside a school at Phampuni village here in Koraput district Friday night.
The couple, who sustained critical injuries in the attack, was later admitted to hospital for treatment.
Sources said a 25-year-old youth of Phampuni village was in love with a Scheduled Caste girl of the same village and had maintained physical relationship with her on assurance of marriage. Friday night, both were caught in a compromising position inside a school by the relatives of the girl. The relatives later thrashed the youth as well as the girl leaving them critically injured. While the youth was admitted to Koraput district headquarters hospital (DHH), the girl was admitted to Jeypore hospital.
A rape case against the youth has been filed by the girl’s family at the Sadar police station while an attempt to murder case has been lodged against the girl’s family.
Meanwhile, police have begun an investigation into the incident.
