Bhubaneswar: The second last day of the Monsoon Session of the Assembly met the fate of other days as the ruckus created by legislators inside the House resulted in washing out of the Question Hour as well as Zero Hour.

As soon as Question Hour commenced and the House was about to start proceedings, Congress and BJP MLAs started disrupting proceedings over the alleged silence maintained by the government on some important questions.

Some BJP MLAs were seen wearing black gowns as a mark of protest as they raised the issue of alleged anomalies in the Biju Yuva Vahini scheme.

The Congress too jumped on to the BJP bandwagon and tried its best to attract the attention of Speaker PK Amat towards issues like sapling and Omfed scams. Within five minutes the Speaker adjourned the House till 11:30am.

As soon as the House resumed during Zero Hour and BJP legislature party leader KV Singh Deo started his speech, many Congress MLAs converged near the seat of the Speaker and started raising slogans against the government.

Left with no option, the Speaker again adjourned the House till 3pm, leading to a complete washout of both the Question as well as Zero Hours.

Congress MLA Prafulla Majhi said, “We wanted to raise some important issues and wanted the government to discuss them, but it seemed they were not interested. The state is now feeling lack of governance which must be addressed.”

Singh Deo talked to the media in detail after adjournment of the Zero Hour as he was not allowed to speak inside the House.

BJP corners govt over BYV audit delay

Bhubaneswar: The BJP Wednesday tried to corner the state government over the latter’s alleged move to delay the concurrent audit of Biju Yuva Vahini (BYV) scheme citing a busy schedule for the upcoming World Cup Hockey as an excuse.
Briefing the media, BJP legislator Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said, “The Deputy Accountant General had earlier written to the state Youth Affairs department seeking audit of the scheme and sought its cooperation. However, the department is saying that they are busy with the World Cup Hockey and thus the audit needs to be postponed.”
“The BJD government is trying to evade the audit on the alibi of World Cup Hockey as the audit from block level to urban local body level can expose their wrong doings in the scheme through which the BJD is trying to create its cadres.”
Singh Deo also mentioned that the state government is afraid of the audit. He said, “I was not allowed to speak on the issue in the Assembly as the Congress and BJD MLAs conspired to disrupt the proceedings. I suspect the government has something to hide.” It may be worth mentioning here that concurrent audits are done by the auditors when the scheme is rolled out or underway in the state.
