Jajpur: The uncle of the Jajpur gangrape survivor was arrested Wednesday.
The prime accused identified as Bijay Kanta was arrested by police after medical examination of the girl. He has been forwarded to court
According to police, the girl was kidnapped August 20 when she had gone to Madhuban Bazaar in the district. She was forcefully taken to a house located at a secluded place following which she was held captive and gangraped for 28 days by a group of miscreants.
The matter came to the fore Sunday after the girl, who was thrown into Kharasrota river, by the accused persons, swam ashore and reached Routpur village in the district. After the survivor narrated her ordeal before locals, they immediately rushed her to Kuakhia police station,” police said.
Basing on the statement of the girl and her family members, police started investigation and caught hold of the accused following raids at different places in the village and nearby places.
“Further, investigation is underway and other persons involved in the crime will be nabbed at the earliest,” a police official said.
