Dharmagarh: Acting on a tip-off, police Friday busted a fake currency note racket with the arrest of two persons at Dharmagarh in Kalahandi district.
Fake notes worth Rs 17, 000 in the denomination of Rs 500 were seized from their possession. The accused duo confessed to the crime during interrogation, police said. The two have been identified as Kulamani Naik of Gadijora and Rajendra Bhoi of Kutru village in the district. The two have been booked under IPC’s secion 420, 489B, 489C and 120B, informed Dharamgarh SDPO Surendranath Satpathy.
According to police, resident Dhaniram had gone to market to sell five goats which were bought by Rajendra for Rs 40,000. Rajendra handed over the fake currency of Rs 40,000 and left with the goats.
Unaware, Dhaniram took out a Rs 500 note from the cash he received from Rajendra and presented it to the grocer who identified the fake currency.
Shocked Dhaniram hatched a plan to nab Rajendra and called him on the pretext of selling more goats. The villagers then detained Rajendra. The detention later led to the arrest of Kulamani.
Later, the villagers handed over the two to police. During an investigation, it was revealed that the two were making photocopies of original notes and printing fake notes from them. Later, they circulated the notes in the market.
Police seized fake notes worth Rs 17,000 from their possession. Police suspected the involvement of an organised network and initiated a probe to uncover the racket.
