Bhubaneswar, March 16: The 10th Annual Traditional Music, Dance, Drama and Parampara Awards-2015 organised by Parampara which began Sunday, concluded on a grand note at Rabindra Mandap here Monday.
During the two-day programme, different cultural activities like drama by Uttarayana group, Odissi dance drama by Natyashala group, and an instrumental concert titled ‘Tabla Parampara’ by Dr Tapash Paul were held which greatly entertained the audiences.
Eminent personalities in the fields of art and culture like tabla musician Pandit Umesh Chandra Kar, dance exponent Guru Gopi Krushna Behera, and theatre personality Bidyut Prava Pattnaik were awarded at the event.
“The state of Orissa is still upholding the torch of its great heritage and tradition,” said tourism and culture minister Ashok Panda who was attending the event.
“Orissa, earlier known as Utkal, is a land of art and artists. Our cultural heritage is our greatest treasure and also our identity to the world. A race is known from its culture and tradition, which is passed from one generation to the other,” the minister added.
“This is the era of Bollywood and western music, which together have eroded a large chunk of our culture of classical music. Our youngsters are now less interested in theatre and are not as interested in learning classical music. This should change,” he added.
Tourism and culture secretary Dr Aravind Kumar Padhee and actor Bijay Mohanty also attended to grace the occasion.
