Bhubaneswar, March 16: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will soon start a mobile study centre, operated from a van, with a view to boosting computer literacy among tribal youths. “There still are many places in the state that have no provision for a study centre. Education at those places is in a sorry state. Therefore, we have decided to introduce the mobile study centre which will provide computer education to youths,” said Abhilash Nayak, regional director IGNOU here.
The van will be equipped with 15 computers with necessary peripherals. There will be dedicated faculty members to impart education. The van will be monitored from the regional offices in Koraput and the capital.
“We don’t have study centres in some of the tribal areas where our students are having difficulties. They have to travel a lot to reach the nearby IGNOU study centre. The basic idea is to impart computer education to these students,” said Nayak.
The initiative has drawn good response from students. “The study van will help students in the far-off areas of the state who have been deprived of quality education. Computer literacy is very much important in today’s world,” said Anapurna Samal, an IGNOU student here.
Moreover, the study van will reach places where IGNOU has at least 15 to 20 students enrolled to any one of the computer courses provided by the Open University.
