Keonjhar: Some residents under Keonjhar municipality have demanded a vigilance inquiry into alleged irregularities in procurement of dustbins.
They said the municipality purchased dustbins worth lakhs of rupees in the past 10 years. As part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the municipality had purchased a large number of dustbins.
According to the locals, the places where these bins were placed were not appropriate.
Some of the bins have been lying unused while others were missing. The municipality has no information about the old dustbins, locals said, adding that there are irregularities in the purchase of new dustbins.
Some dustbins are lying broken due to lack of maintenance. As per rules, the municipality should have taken back these broken dustbins, but it has not done so yet, the locals alleged.
They also said the quality of dustbins is very poor. “Garbage from the bins is not lifted regularly. Sometimes these bins are stinking. It is a very difficult situation for those who are residing near these dustbins,” a resident said.
