Chhendipada: Villages of Katada panchayat under Jarapada police limits in Angul district had a field day after a tanker carrying petrol overturned here Wednesday.
Instead of helping the driver, the villagers were seen collecting petrol in tins and bowls. The villagers emptied the whole tanker and fled with the petrol.
Sources said, the incident occurred while the tanker was heading towards Sambalpur from Angul. The vehicle overturned half-way on NH-55 after the driver lost control.
Soon after the accident, petrol started gushing out of the tanker following which the locals gathered in large numbers and collected the precious fuel. While petrol is at a skyrocketing price, the villagers are now a happy lot with petrol for the whole month. On being informed, Jarapada police reached the spot and drove away the villagers.
