Bolangir: Residents and relatives bid a tearful farewell as the mortal remains of slain Doordarshan cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu was cremated with state honours at his Ghusuramunda village under Loisingha block of Bolangir district Wednesday.
Sahu was killed along with two police personnel in a Maoist ambush when he was accompanying the Doordarshan crew covering elections at Aranpura in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.
Sahu was accorded guard of honour by Bolangir district police personnel before his elder brother Prasant Sahu conducted the last rites.
“The body of Achyutananda was brought to Ghusuramunda with the help of the state and Chhattisgarh government. The state police participated in the funeral ceremony and accorded a guard of honour,” Bolangir SP K Siva Subramani said.
Bolangir MLA Narasingh Mishra, Loisingha MLA Jogendra Behera, SP K Subramani, DRDA project director Maheshwar Swain, former MP Balgopal Mishra, DRDO Jaydev Panigrahi, tehsildar and senior officials of the Doordarshan paid tributes to the mortal remains of Sahu.
About 250 Naxalites attacked the media and police teams when they were on their way to a poll-bound village.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Kaushal, a Chhattisgarh policeman who was injured in Tuesday’s ambush died at a hospital in Raipur, taking the toll to four in the Dantewada incident.
Kaushal was part of the patrol moving in vehicles when they were attacked. The other slain policemen were identified as constable Mangal Ram and assistant sub-inspector Rudra Pratap Singh. Another injured policeman, Vishnu Netam, is being treated.
