Kolkata, March 21: Sporting Club de Goa made a stunning comeback by slamming two goals in 13 minutes to hold East Bengal to a 2-2 draw in the I-League, here Saturday.
East Bengal’s top scorer Ranti Martins struck on either sides of the break to give them a 2-0 lead, but it was once again the poor defensive display of the hosts that let them down as Anthony Wolfe’s brace ensured a point for the visitors. Sporting’s star recruit, Odafa Okolie failed to score but the Nigerian nicely set up Wolfe for his goals.
While Martins was at his deadly best, his striking partner Dudu was equally abysmal and wasted three sitters, which cost the Red and Gold brigade at the end.
Earlier, East Bengal broke the stalemate at the hal fway mark when Milan Susak set up Martins with a long ball as the Nigerian chested it down and dribbled past a Sporting defender and scored with a prompt shot. Martins then doubled the lead in the 60th minute when he curled in a beautifully taken free- kick. However, their joy was short-lived as Wolfe’s strikes brought the teams on level terms.
In Margao, a late Robin Singh goal enable Bengaluru FC win their tie against 10-man Salgaocar. The win took Bengaluru to 17 points from 10 matches and put them on top of the league table.
