Nabarangpur: To ensure safe drinking water supply round the clock in rural areas, the district administration is all set to implement four projects worth Rs 872.79 cr here in this district, reports said.
Once completed, the projects will benefit around three lakh people of 86 panchayats across Tentulikhunti, Nandahandi, Kosagumuda, Nabarangpur, Papdahandi and Chandahandi blocks of the district.
“The detailed project report has been prepared and the administrative clearance obtained. We hope to finalize the tender process shortly,” Manoranjan Mali, Executive Engineer of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Division said.
Under the projects, the administration has decided to supply filtered surface water of the Indravati and Tel rivers to the villagers for drinking purposes. This will help people to avoid drinking water from ponds, streams and tubewells that give rise to unwanted diseases in remote pockets. The spread of kidney ailments and other diseases is highly attributed to the consumption of tube well and pond water.
“The projects will be helpful for the district as given its geographical locations filled with hilly terrains and villages situated at far- flung areas,” said Mali adding that under the new projects, only pipelines will be laid to the rural areas connected to the main projects. Also, the existing rural piped water supply projects of the district will be linked to the new projects.
According to the official figures, while a mega water projects worth of Rs 146.82 cr will be constructed to supply water to 22 panchayats under Tentulikhunti and Nandahandi blocks, at least 11 panchayat of Kosagumuda block will be supplied water through a mega projects worth of Rs 107.07 cr.
Similarly, for 40 panchayat of Nabarangpur, Papdahandi and Kosagumuda block and 13 panchayats of Chandahandi block will be supplied water through two mega water projects to be constructed worth Rs 493.54 cr and Rs 125.63 cr, respectively.
