Athmallik: A man sustained severe burn injuries after some miscreants of the same village hurled acid on him over a land dispute at Baram village under Thakugarh police limits of this block in Angul district Monday morning.
The victim has been identified as Sukru Majhi. Family members rescued Majhi in a critical condition and rushed him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH). Majhi sustained severe burn injuries on his belly, back and right limbs.
According to sources, a land dispute prevailed between Majhi and a family of the same village. The two families were in loggerheads over the possession of the land. Things took an ugly turn after the miscreants, in an act of revenge, hurled acid on Majhi after a fight broke out over the issue once again this morning.
The incident has spread fear and panic among the locals. Acting on a complaint by the victim’s kin, police swung into action and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants. A police team visited the village and launched a probe.
“The miscreants have been identified and will be arrested soon,” a senior police officer said. Meanwhile, steps were taken to ensure proper medical treatment for Majhi.
