Phulbani: A prisoner died after he was attacked by a fellow inmate at Phulbani jail here in Kandhamal district Saturday. According to sources, the two inmates, Kanhucharan Pradhan and Laxman Nayak, broke out into a tiff over some issue inside the jail. In a fit of rage, Pradhan took a stone and hit Nayak in his head.
The jail authorities rescued Nayak and admitted him to Phulbani district headquarters hospital (DHH). After preliminary treatment, he was referred to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital after his condition worsened. However, Nayak succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment
When contacted the jailor, Garib Sahu, said Pradhan is mentally ill and is undergoing treatment. However, over some reason, his mental illness increased and he attacked Nayak, Sahu said.
