Chhatrapur: A special squad of the district administration Tuesday rescued 93 children from the Dream Centre shelter home owned by tainted NGO Good News India at Saibjenapalli village under this block in Ganjam district and handed them over to the child welfare committee (CWC).
The children were brought in two buses to Berhampur following which the CWC handed them over to their respective guardians. A total of 134 children from Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts were residing at the shelter home owned and managed by Good News India. The rest of the children will be handed over to their guardians after their arrival.
The squad led by Chhatrapur tehsildar Nilamadhav Bhoi and comprising child protection officer Subodh Sarangi and second officer Bhagyalakhsmi Bhoi of Chhatrapur police station had identified a shelter home of Good News India, two of Prince Popular NGO and a child care centre of another outfit Sunday after reports of sexual exploitation of minor girls at Dhenkanal- based shelter home of Good News India surfaced Sunday. These shelter homes were unregistered. A total of 214 children were found living in the shelter homes.
Reports said the administration tried to shift 45 children including 34 boys and 11 girls to a government-sponsored shelter home from the Prince Popular shelter home Monday. However, it had to drop the plan after the children cried and objected to their shifting.
