Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police in collaboration with Indian railways will install CCTVs and baggage scanners in coaches of major trains and at railway stations to ensure security of the passengers.
This was decided at a state-level security committee meeting on railways held under the chairmanship of director general of police (DGP) RP Sharma Wednesday.
The close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in all the coaches of major trains, Additional Director General (ADG) of Railways and Coastal Security Pranabindu Acharya said after the meeting.
“A joint team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) will be formed at the railway stations to conduct a survey for requirement of CCTVs,” said Acharya.
The ADG further said that non-functioning of baggage scanners at various stations has been reported and the same had been conveyed to the railway authorities, who have agreed to repair them. More baggage scanners will be installed at major railway stations soon including one at Rourkela railway station within seven days.
Besides, it was decided to repair and construct staff quarters and as the government has recently finalised the jurisdiction of state railway police (SRP) Rourkela and Cuttack, new railway lines will be brought under the purview of the GRP, Acharya maintained.
The meeting was attended by inspectors general of police (IGPs) of RPFs from South Eastern Railway (SER), Eastern Railway (ER) and South East Central Railway (SECR) along with Intelligence Bureau officers and SRPs of Cuttack and Rourkela.
