Bhograi: The TMC government in West Bengal has allegedly put up hoardings with misspelt Odia words at Digha on the borders of Odisha. This has hurt the sentiments of people living in Bhograi area of Balasore, a report said.
The locals have condemned the act as an insult to Odia language.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had stayed at Digha from Monday to Friday for review of various projects. TMC had put up welcome hoardings along the roads. Odia script was used in the hoardings, but most of the Odia words were found misspelt and sounding strange.
For example, ‘Khadya’ was written as ‘Khadeya’; Yubashakti as Yubasari; Prachar as Paracharaka.
Debabrata Das, president of Digha-Shankarpur Unnayan Parishad, expressed his regret and assured that the anomalies in Odia words in the hoardings will be corrected soon.
Utkal Bharat president Kharavel Swain said such an act indicates intolerance of Bengali speaking people towards Odia language. Former MP Kartikeswar Patra and Congress leader Sadashiba Das have slammed the TMC for such an act.
