Bargarh: The Bijepur police Saturday cracked the murder mystery of Jayshree Meher of Bairakhkhali village who was killed in front of her husband October 6.

Preliminary probe revealed Jayshree (42), wife of Khirod Meher (50) was killed by her daughter-in-law and her family members. While they had targeted Jayshree’s husband, they killed her, police said.

The police arrested five persons in this connection including the deceased woman’s daughter-in-law, her father Kedar Meher (40), sister, lover Mitrabhanu Guru alias Kusha (34) of Tenterkund village under Dunguripali police limits in Subarnapur district and their aide Paritosh Banka (35) alias Pari of Khuntapali village.

Police also seized a numberless motorbike, helmet, four mobile phones and other things from their possession.

Based on a complaint by deceased woman’s husband Khirod, police registered a case and produced the five accused in court Sunday. They were later remanded in jail after the court rejected their bail pleas.

Meanwhile, two others involved in the case were absconding and a manhunt was launched to nab them, police said. Padmapur SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda revealed the murder plot at a press meet in Bargarh police station.

According to sources, Jayshree’s son Balaram had married Kedar’s daughter two years back. However, the woman was in a love relationship with Kusha before her marriage. The two continued their illicit affair even after marriage.

Kusha introduced himself as the woman’s brother and often arrived at her house to meet her. This did not go well with Jayshree and Khirod and the two objected it. On one occasion, Khirod insulted Kusha while he had gone to meet the woman and turned him away from the house.

Infuriated, Kusha made up his mind to eliminate Khirod. He also included three of his friends, his love woman and her father in his plan.

As per plan, the woman came to her parents home on some pretext. There, she along with her lover Kusha, her father Kedar and sister hatched the murder plan. Later, the woman again went back to her husband’ home after the plan.

As per plan, she kept open the house back door October 6 night. Later, Kusha along with three of his aides arrived at the house late in the night and barged into the house.

They went into Jayshree and Khirod’s room and tried to kill Khirod. However, one of them stabbed Jayshree to death when she tried to stop them. The accused also did not spare their son’s Balaram and Debanand when they rushed to the room hearing their screams.

The accused then fled the house after neighbours woke up hearing the screams. Khirod, Jayshree and their two sons were then rushed to Bijepur community health centre (CHC) where Jayshree succumbed to the injuries.

During probe, police found the motorbikes of the accused that they had left in the house and fled after neighbours woke up. The motorbikes helped the cops get their identity and made the arrest.
