Balasore: A minor girl from Maharastra, has alleged of being tortured physically and mentally by an Odia youth on the pretext of marriage in Janikapal village under Oupada police limits in Balasore district.
The matter came to light after the girl was rescued by some volunteers and social workers who then handed her over to Khaira Child Line. The Childline officials lodged a complaint with the police in this regard and launched a probe.
According to the complaint, the victim and the youth identified as Abhimanyu Poi of the village met each other while he was working in a private company in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri area.
Later, the youth, lured the girl into a relationship and brought her to his village on the pretext of marriage a few months ago. However, he kept her captive in a house and began to harass her both mentally and physically.
Fed up with his torturre, the girl escaped from his clutches and fled the village last night. The girl was rescued by the members of Good Samaritan.
On basis of the statement, the police have launched a probe into the matter. Further investigation is underway, sources said.
