Berhampur, April 2: In a gruesome incident, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped Thursday in the presence of her younger sister by a youth in broad day light in an area under Golanthara police limits of local police district. The incident has sent shockwave in the
Silk City.
Locals caught Budu Malan (28) and handed him over to the police. A case was registered and the accused has been produced in court.
According to reports, two cousin sisters of Govindnagar were on a morning walk Thursday. Budu stopped them near the railway track leading to their home when they were returning. He first misbehaved with the younger sister which was resisted by both of them.
The elder sister tried to push him seeing his indecent move. However, the youth got agitated with her resistance and targeted the elder sister leaving the younger one.
The girl seeing the modesty of her elder sister being outraged in broad day light fled home to get some assistance.
As the girl told about their ordeal to some passersby, they came to her rescue and arrived at the spot. They overpowered the accused and beat him black and blue. He was a resident of Govind Nagar.
They handed over the youth to Golanthara police. Budu was produced in court after medical examination of the three. Several criminal cases were found to be recorded against him, police said.
