Bhubaneswar, April 3: Just two months are left for admissions to the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the state, but the Centre is yet to finalise locations either for the temporary or the permanent campus of the IIM.
“Though two-and-a-half months have passed since the field visit of the site selection committee, the Union ministry of human resource development is yet to communicate anything in this regard,” a senior official of the employment, technical education and training (ETET) department told Orissa POST.
The official said the state government had also submitted further information in this regard which the ministry had requested for.
The committee led by MHRD additional secretary (higher education) Amarjeet Sinha visited two sites for setting up of a permanent campus near Bhubaneswar and a temporary campus for the International Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT).
Following this, in the first week of March, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani wrote a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking the state’s opinion on the location for a permanent campus in Sambalpur region and the state government had agreed to the Centre’s recommendation.
“Soon after this, we have submitted site maps, land details and other information for two possible locations of the institute in Sambalpur area. But no communication has come from the MHRD in this regard. We are waiting for the Centre’s response,” said the official.
Official sources also revealed that the MHRD had appointed the director of IIM Kolkata as mentor for the proposed institute but now IIM Indore will look
after it.
