Balasore: Police thwarted a major robbery bid in Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore Thursday night. A gang of five dacoits was planning to commit a robbery when the police arrested them at Chudakutasahi.
Police seized various weapons and a map from them. The arrested robbers were involved in 14 cases of murder, snatching and loot, said IIC Subhransu Nayak at a presser here Friday.
Nayak said, Maheswar Bagal (30), Mithuna Bagal (20) of Chudakutasahi, Satyaranjan Das (23) of Shovrampur, Madhu Singh (45) Kalipada in Mayurbhanj and Susghant Sethi (24) of Bansada in Bhadrak were planning to committee a robbery at 1 am at Chudakutasahi.
Police had a tip-off and swung into action. Police rounded them up and seized a number of sharp-edged weapons, steel pipes, ropes, two shock absorbers and four bamboo lathis from the accused.
A case was registered against them and they were produced in a court Friday.
