Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police Monday arrested the owner of a beauty parlour at Master Canteen here for his alleged involvement in trading of illegal fire arms. The sleuths also seized a country-made gun from his possession. The accused was identified as Mustaq Alam, 36, who has been staying near Santoshi Maa Temple at Bomikhal under Mancheswar police station.
According to sources, some unknown sources Monday morning informed Kharavela Nagar police that illegal flesh trade was going on in a saloon and a parlour at the backside of the Club House show room at Master Canteen. Acting on the tip-off, police immediately carried out a raid on the spot but it failed to get any evidence regarding flesh trade there.
However, during the search, police stumbled upon a country-made pistol that belongs to Allam. Later, police booked him when he failed to explain the sources of the gun. He was brought to the police station where he confessed to the crime of working as a middleman in the gun running business.
Police later arrested the culprit after registering a case (347/18) under section 25 of the Arms Act. Police claimed that Allam would be produced before the court Tuesday.
Two illegal fire arm dealers had been held by the Commissionerate Police in November from Laxmisagar area of the City. Similarly, another gun runner was held by the Quick Action team of the Commissionearate Police under Lingaraj police limits in October.
Sources said the capital city has seen a spurt in illegal fire arms and ammunition business. Fire arms priced between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000 are sourced from Bihar and sold in the city and other areas of the state at a premium. Youngsters are found involved in the profitable trade. Truck drivers ferrying goods from Bihar to Odisha reportedly work as the carrier of the illegal arms and ammunitions, the sources added.
