Rayagada: At least four persons were killed and two others sustained grievous injuries after their vehicle rammed a roadside tree at a diversion in Tayaput on Rapahakana-Tikiri main road under Kashipur block in Rayagada district Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Naveen Majhi, Papu Majhi and Rabi Majhi of Dengaguda village in Kashipur block and another Ajay Majhi of Panasguda village near Kashipur. A co-passenger, Biru Kumar, sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
The incident has spread shockwaves in the area when everybody was preparing to welcome the New Year and bid farewell to the outgoing year 2018. The vehicle was damaged beyond recognition.
According to reports, the youths of Kashipur had gone to Kuntingguda in a Mahindra Bolero. They were returning home when the driver lost control over the wheels following which the SUV rammed a roadside tree killing four of them on the spot.
On receipt of information, Tikiri police and fire personnel reached the spot, rescued the injured and admitted them to the district hospital.
