Kolkata, April 6: With less than 48 hours remaining before the first ball in IPL VIII is bowled, rain has become a major concern for the organisers here. The opening match which is scheduled for March 8 may be a washout, according to the Met department.
However, CAB joint secretary Subir Ganguly looked confident about dealing with the situation. “We have taken all the possible measures to avoid disruptions. The drainage system has been renovated and now we have a better way to clear water quickly,” said Ganguly. However, he was quick to point out that CAB would be helpless if rain starts midway during a tie. “We can manage the situation if the rain stops two hours before the game.”
The Kolkata Police and CAB officials jointly held a meeting here Monday where the security issues were discussed. “We have been doing our best to keep everything in its place. As six of KKR’s eight home games will be played at night, there is need for extra security. So, we have urged the bus and taxi owners to run more vehicles on match days so that people have no problem returning home,” said city police commissioner Surojit Kar Purakayastha.
A controversy erupted between the CAB and KKR later in the day. The KKR management has put up a large hoarding in front of the gate thereby obstructing view of pictures on the wall. CAB has objected But the KKR management has refused to pay heed. IPL COO Sundar Raman is hopeful for an amicable solution soon.
