Bhubaneswar, April 6: Elections to eight Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state will be held Tuesday. The poll-bound civic bodies included Balimela, Sunabeda, Redhakhol, Paradip, Belpahar and three new NACs such as Dharamgarh, Tusara and Daspalla.
As many as 1,50,185 voters will exercise their franchise in these ULBs polling for which will be conducted between 8 am and 5 pm. Voting will be held in 183 booths spread over 129 wards in which fate of 469 candidates will be sealed in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
State Election Commissioner (SEC) RN Senapati said, “Elaborate arrangements have been in place to ensure that elections in these civic bodies are held smoothly.”
While CCTVs will be installed at 18 highly sensitive booths, special arrangements will be made at 115 booths.
The SEC has appointed general and expenditure observers in these areas. A total of 183 presiding officers and 549 poling officers will be engaged in the poll exercise. Every booth will have a presiding officer and three poling officers each. Counting and announcement of the results will be done April 8.
Earlier, elections to newly-formed Ranpur NAC were postponed by the election commission citing discrepancies in the voters’ list. The civic body will go to polls May 5. More P-7
