Bhubaneswar, April 7: Forty kindergarten students from different schools took part in a drawing competition organised by the Narayan Seva Sangha at Lohia Academy in the city Tuesday.
The competition was held to mark World Health Day observed worldwide by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“Health is wealth. Therefore, it is necessary to take very good care of our health. Taking care of our environment is also of utmost importance. So I made a drawing of a green city, which portrays how our city should look. I suggest all to plant trees on their premises,” said seven-year-old Somesh Kumar Satapathy.
Some paintings were so well-made that they caught the attention of both teachers and parents. “These drawings show how conscious the children are about their surroundings. Their innovative drawings are really a nice surprise. I believe these budding artists have it in them to do their bit for the planet, and we’re all proud of their efforts,” said Debasmita Mohanty, a mother.
The organisation also appreciated the children for participating in the event. “A drawing competition for children is a medium to draw attention of people to the cause. People can be sensitised through these wonderful drawings. In fact, people will pay even more attention if it is made by schoolchildren,” said Gourang Champati, association secretary.
Renowned social activist Loknath Das was felicitated with the ‘Narayan Seva Samman-2015’ at a function held after the drawing competition. Das has worked for several years to contribute to the welfare of the physically-challenged.
“Human service is synonymous to service to God. Therefore, I invite all voluntary associations to work for the welfare of society. We cannot rely on government for support. We have to reach out ourselves to the needy,” Das said.
Khurda collectors Niranjan Sahu, and former Rajya Sabha MP Bhabani Charan Patnaik were also present at the event. All children who participated in the event were given certificates of achievement at the end of the programme.
